Bioidentical Hormone Therapy (BHRT)

Bioidentical hormones have the same chemical structure as hormones produced by the human body. In select cases, discussing bioidentical options may be part of an individualized plan aimed at reducing bothersome symptoms related to hormonal fluctuation or decline.

When BHRT may be considered
  • Perimenopause or menopause symptoms (e.g., hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness)
  • Andropause-related concerns (e.g., changes in energy, mood, libido)
  • Hormone-related imbalances (e.g., cycle irregularities, PCOS-related features)

Appropriateness, dosing, and formulations are determined on an individual basis following assessment and lab review.

How BHRT is delivered
  • Topicals (creams/gels)
  • Oral formulations

Monitoring and follow-up are important. Any prescribing is coordinated through appropriate channels within professional scope and applicable regulations.

Laboratory Assessment for Hormonal Health

Lab testing helps clarify baseline status and guides individualized care for both women and men. Selection depends on your history, symptoms, and goals.

Commonly Reviewed Panels
  • CBC, electrolytes, kidney and liver function
  • Thyroid assessment (TSH, T3, T4) as indicated
  • Glucose, insulin, HbA1c, lipid profile
  • Iron studies (ferritin, iron panel) where relevant
  • Vitamin D and B12
Sex Hormone Evaluation (as indicated)
  • Estradiol, progesterone
  • Total and free testosterone, DHT, SHBG
  • DHEA-S, prolactin
  • Timing relative to cycle phase for menstruating patients
Advanced Hormone Panels
  • DUTCH Complete — dried urine hormone profile with metabolites; may inform individualized strategies for women and men.
  • DUTCH Cycle Mapping — serial measurements across the menstrual cycle to visualize ovulatory patterns and luteal trends where cycle-specific insight is needed.

Availability and suitability are reviewed during consultation. (For our clinic process: test requisition is arranged for patients of the clinic; fees apply for private labs.)

Recent blood work (ideally within 6 weeks) is preferred when initiating or adjusting plans. You may request requisitions from your primary provider; if that is not possible, our clinic can arrange requisition at a cost paid by the patient.
